Description
Abstract: High performance titanium alloys and composites can be produced by an in-situ melt process producing material that has application in aerospace, defense and automotive. The processing results in custom composition material with exceptionally high mechanical properties and ductility, and composites for reduced weight armor over monolithic titanium. Alloys with high modulus, very high strengths up to 2x wrought, and very high ductility will be presented. Composites with particulate reinforcement in uniform cross sections as well as in multiple layers that also include gamma alloys/composites will be presented. Specific applications in jet engines, automotive parts and armor will be presented.
