Phase Equilibrium in the 30% Al2O3 Plane of the Quaternary CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 System




Abstract: With the purpose of providing new phase equilibrium data, phase equilibria in 30% Al2O3 plane of the CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 system at 1500oC were experimental investigated using the high temperature equilibration technique followed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The level rule was used to judge the equilibrium phases and the two-phase equilibration relations of liquid with CaO, liquid with 2CaO·SiO2 and three-phase equilibrium relation of liquid coexist with CaO and MgO was obtained based on the experimental result. The effect of MgO, CaO and SiO2 on 1500oC liquidus line have been discussed. The solubility of 2CaO·SiO2 and MgO at 1500oC were found to be higher in comparison with the existing phase diagram while the solubility of CaO was found to be somewhat lower.
