Abstract: Inclusions affect the fatigue life of axel steel seriously. To investigate the compositions, sizes and distributions of inclusions in steel, the samples have been obtained from different positions in the hot rolled billet. Through a 3-D finite element method model, the present paper has located the positions of those samples in the pre-rolling ingot before. Furthermore, samples in the productive process (before the LF refining, after the LF refining, after the RH refining and the casting platform) have been obtained. The present work has revealed the compositions, sizes and distributions of inclusions in steel by the inclusion automatic analysis system (INCASTEEL, Oxford).
